This has actually been finished for like a month. Watercolors and colored pencils. That is the inside of their base you see there, and the first time I've drawn it like this, I believe... I went overboard on highlighting Akoda's hair, need to fix that one day. :B

Laptop problem

Doomtastic computer problems: I need a bit of help and/or advice. :P;

Situation: When I started Windows on my laptop this morning, Windows Explorer would not load due to an error with the normaliz.dll system file. (Meaning no Start menu, taskbar etc.) After a bit of aasl;dfjal;sdjflas;djkf'ing I Googled the problem and downloaded a copy of the dll file to my laptop. It was in a ZIP archive, and for some stupid reason I couldn't extract it while browsing with the Task Manager. So I moved it to my USB drive, extracted it via desktop, and then tried to copypaste the dll file to the system32 directory-- I believe at this point I got a cyclic redundancy error. I tried a couple more times, then figured that it was a problem with the file-- so I copied the normaliz.dll file from my desktop to my USB drive, and tried to paste it to the system directory again. Same error. Copied the file from USB drive to My Documents, and from there tried to copypaste again into system32; this time, command prompt told me the file didn't exist there. lulz. At this point I thought maybe it was a problem with my USB drive, so I tried to burn the normaliz.dll file from desktop onto a disc - and then remembered that my ancient CD burner doesn't work.

So I really don't know what to do. (I've tried two system restores, neither of which solved the problem) The system32 directory on my laptop shows a normaliz.dll file being there already, though the error that prevents Explorer from loading reports it cannot be found. I figure it's corrupted or something? ._.; At any rate, I can neither copy a new normaliz.dll file into the directory nor delete the old one, at this point.

Also, I do not know what caused this to come up. I read that this problem has something to do with an IE7 beta installation, but I never installed the beta, only the final version of IE7; also I don't believe I uninstalled it. I may have, I don't know.

another oddity, however: Last night, when laptop was still working fine, I shut it down when I went to bed; the last time I glanced at it before I went to sleep, it was still trying to shut down and hadn't finished doing so yet. This morning when I got up, it was still shutting down... lolwut. I killed it with the power button, but when I shut it down for the first time after trying to get Explorer working again, it went fine and only took the normal amount of time to do so. Could this have something to do with this error?

I would really appreciate any suggestions. I'm leaving this entry public. *beg, whine, etc.*

I'll just go out on a limb here and ask whoever wants to answer-

What's the best affordable domain name registrar you guys know of? :C I still mean to finish my website ASAP and I want some opinions on where to go to buy my domain. :D Hosting itself isn't a problem, I have that taken care of, just the domain name. If you know me at all, you know I am The Ultimate Cheapass, so keep that in mind in your suggestions :D <3

Also, something else I figure I'll ask an opinion on while I'm here out from under my rock- I've been considering using this journal to post my artworks to. I find I'm not really interested in DA anymore ~~especially since that horrible new layout came out~~ and furthermore I like the fact that LJ is a tad more personal. Maybe that's not the word I'm looking for, but anyway. D: I already post my writing here, so what do yew guise think? Is it worth a try, or should I just take my scribbles elsewhere (aka get off my ass and finish my site faster)? I like being able to get feedback, tho, so some place like either here or DA is more ideal...

Fightscene drabble

Finishing Animal Farm got me in a writing mood, and while this was not what I originally was gonna write, it's what got written. It's not much, but hey.

First RK and Flash showdown, about two years into the future from the current point in the storyline.

RK peered around the corner, staying in the shadows. It was him, alright. He would recognize that traitorous, obnoxiously green hide anywhere. But Flash wasn't paying him any attention. He was talking on his cellphone, sounding not entirely pleased.

“I told you, I can't make that happen yet,” the hedgehog growled into the receiver. “I'm in a bit of a situation here.” Flash kicked the wall in frustration. “Well, get this psycho to quit stalking me and I might be a little more focused!” RK smirked darkly, ego inflating slightly. Flash was talking about him.

“I'll call you back.” The green hedgie violently stabbed the end call button with a finger. It looked pretty stupid. Rzaouri would have laughed, but his one-track mind was currently fogged with hatred, and the echidna knew that this was his chance. He stood up, having been crouching to observe his enemy, and stepped into the dim sunlight.

“You had been covering your tracks well,” RK said, speaking up. Flash turned around and looked at him, startled.

“RK?”

“It took me two months to find your trail, and another four to follow it here,” continued Rzaouri. “Too bad you got sloppy. Started getting too easy. I'm not stupid, you know.”

The lime green hedgehog regained his composure, and narrowed his eyes at the echidna. “This is about Tora, isn't it? It was nothing personal, you know. Just business. She got in the way.”

“You're a pathetic waste of skin,” hissed RK. “Can you even comprehend the amount of damage you did? And are still doing?”

“It's not my fault you overreacted,” replied Flash coolly. “And right now I think you're doing the most damage to your friends back home.”

Rzaouri slammed his fist into the wall, ignoring the pain it brought. “I wouldn't be here right now if it weren't for you! You're ruining my life! There's no way I can be happy in this world while you continue to exist.” He cracked his knuckles, temper flaring; he quickly sized up the other boy. Flash was his height now, but skinny; RK's moderate amount of muscle, the result of dedicated training for the past two years, would work in his own favor. And the hedgehog was just asking for it.

Flash realized that RK was about to attack. He scrambled to find ammunition for his gun, cursing himself for not keeping it loaded; his enemy took advantage of this, making the first move and lunging at him. The hedgehog darted out of the way, trying to keep his eyes on RK and load a cartridge at the same time, and doing a lot of fumbling before succeeding. By then, Rzaouri was on him again, and he got a punch in the jaw. The gun clattered to the ground and Flash flew into the brick wall of the alleyway. He slid to the ground and crawled to the middle of the alley, reaching for his gun. RK's sneaker came down and crushed the hedgehog's hand. Flash glared up at him; the echidna sneered back.

“Too chicken to fight me like a man, Flash?” He ground his foot down further, putting more weight on it, and a series of tiny, sickening crunches was heard as the bones in the hedgehog's hand broke. Flash screamed, writhing in an attempt to get away; he finally grasped his gun, with his other hand, and shot at RK's head. Rzaouri dodged the bullet; it grazed his shoulder and embedded itself in the bricks behind him. He swore and jumped back, clutching the wound. Flash struggled to his feet, clasping the wrist of his mangled dominant hand, the palm of was torn open and bleeding from the asphalt. The hedgehog tried unsuccessfully to load his gun one-handedly; the cartridge slipped out of his hand, wet with his own blood. He looked up at RK, panicky now. Heart a-flutter, he chose cowardice over death (which was promised by Rzaouri's furious eyes) and turned and ran.

RK quickly ripped a strip of fabric from his shirt and wrapped his wound, wiping the blood from his hand onto the makeshift bandage. He then ran after Flash, turning the corner he had spied on the hedgehog from behind, earlier.

There was no skinny green hedgie in sight. Rzaouri snarled a few colorful words, looking in all possible hiding-spots in the abandoned alleyway. No such luck. The traitor had disappeared.

“Mark my words, Flash,” muttered RK. “I will find you again. And every minute that I am not tracking you, I will be making myself stronger. I will be ready next time.”

So this morning kitteh supposedly disappeared, and I just checked the porch; he's still not back.

He was an outside cat, so I knew he'd do this, but I didn't think he'd do it so early. : / I hope the little guy's not squished on the road or starving~ I'M OKAY WITH HIM SEEING OTHER (cat)LADIES.

I do sort of hope he comes back, though~

A dilemma!

So, it seems I have a cat now. This morning my mom pointed the tiny little guy out to me, as he was sleeping under our porch. [First day of summer, too, how convenient is that?!]

There he is.

He stuck around all day and we played with him some. He likes me. Or, rather, he likes my shoes.

I have some white legs, yo.

It seems like he's going to stay, so I need a name for him and I'd like some suggestions! :D He's very loud, he darts around the porch and he's the cutest thing you've ever seen. I don't think he's old enough to be away from his mom, either - he's not very sure about walking. Someone probably dumped him on the side of the road.

He actually held still for one.

So names plz! :|

EDIT: nm! :D Due to the fact that he's always falling over, we named him Vertigo! That means I can call him "Ego" for short. X3

So the year's almost up, and I'll be able to do stuff as soon as summer's officially here. (The 23rd is my last day of schoolery.) "Stuff" translates into "finish website for real this time, finish character profiles, do some art scribbles and start writing". This is starting to sound like a brainstorm post.

I really haven't fulfilled my self-expectations this year as far as working on writing... I have however gotten a lot of figuring-out done, so that makes me feel like it hasn't been a total waste.

I wish I could say I had an expectation as to when I hope to finish my first original story, which is my priority, but I can't, seeing as I haven't even figured out how I want to write it.

Anyway. Guess I'll get it done somehow. :P

Lulz, I've posted six entries all year so far. :| How pathetic am I?
